Marjorie Sheiman
Mezzo-soprano MARJORIE SHEIMAN‘s voice has been praised as “a powerful instrument, and she is not afraid to let it roar when the music wants it to” (Greg Sandow, music critic and composer). Marjorie has performed for organizations across the country, including the National Symphony Orchestra, National Public Radio, the Oregon Symphony, Pink Martini, Oregon Bach Festival, Opera Baltimore, LAH-SOW Opera Workshop, Der Gestanke, Portland Chamber Orchestra, the Eugene Symphony, In Medio, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and Portland SummerFest. She is also on the substitute roster for many prestigious institutions, including the Washington National Cathedral, Washington National Opera, and Washington Concert Opera. Marjorie has participated in numerous competitions and was a National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) 2025 National Semifinalist. In 2019, she won Interkultur’s Grand Prix of Nations as part of the University of Oregon Chamber Choir. More recently, Marjorie was an Emerging Artist with Bach in Baltimore for their 2024-25 season and will be a featured soloist in recitals with The Cecilia Collective and Little City Opera later this year.
Marjorie was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Oregon in 2020. After the Covid shutdown, Marjorie moved to the east coast to pursue her Master of Music in Voice Performance at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. During her time at Peabody, she was an active performer and garnered many accolades. Some highlights include performing as the Alto Soloist in both Mozart’s Requiem and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and starring as Maurya in Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea. Upon her graduation in 2024, she was awarded the George Woodhead Prize in Voice. She is excited to make her Newark Symphony Orchestra debut, and thanks Maestro Simeone Tartaglione for this special opportunity.
