
Serban Petrescu
Concertmaster
Serban Petrescu was born in Bailesti, Romania, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the National University in Bucharest in 2003. He received his Master’s Degree in Music Performance at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2005. In 2003, he cofounded the Liric String Quartet with whom he performed in New Orleans LA, Little Rock AK, Wilmington and Newark DE and Philadelphia PA at the Academy of Music. In 2005, the Liric String Quartet received the Samuel Barber Foundation Award for performance of Samuel Barber’s String Quartet. Petrescu was a member of the Parker-Hughs-Petrescu Trio from 2014-2020.
Petrescu has been the Concertmaster of the Newark Symphony since 2005. He has played with the Lancaster Symphony, the Delaware Symphony, the Kennett Symphony, the Baton Rouge Symphony and the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. Petrescu maintains a private teaching studio with students from Pennsylvania and Delaware. Petrescu is currently teaching violin, viola, and chamber music at Widener University.
