Saturday, November 23, 2024  at 7:30 PM ………….Chamber Concert

Performing at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, our more intimate Chamber series this year includes a special celebration of the late Vincent Craig.

  • Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.4, 1st movement
  • Pianist, Aaron Hungerford
  • Studio of West Chester University Students of the late Vincent Craig

Schubert’s 1815 symphony was completed in less than two months and then debuted publicly 70 years later.  Beethoven’s piano concerto, from 1805-1806, was composed during a period of artistic and emotional turmoil.  This mysterious yet lyrical music expanded the role of piano in orchestral repertoire.

Saturday, February 15, 2025  at 7:30 PM ………….Chamber Concert

Our Chamber concert will be at the Newark United Methodist Church is a festive celebration of instrumentalists!

  • Guest conductor, Brian Cox
  • Johann Christoph Förster: Concerto in Eb for Horn and Strings
  • Soloist, Stephen Getty
  • Domenico Cimarosa: Concerto for Two Flutes & Orchestra
  • Soloists: Crystal Norman and Wendy Colagreco
  • Antonin Dvorák: “Czech Suite” Op. 39

Too few compositions from the German, Baroque composer, Johann Christoph Förster, have survived, but this lovely Concerto in Eb for Horn and Strings, in the Italian style, is to be enjoyed, and features the natural horn.  The Italian Classical composer, Domenica Cimarosa, was a master of the Opera Buffa, and this mischief and wit is discernable in his Concerto for Two Flutes and Orchestra.  The 19th century Czech Romantic composer, Antonin Dvorák, celebrated the folk melodies of his native Moravia and Bohemia, in the cultural celebration of National Romanticism in his “Czech Suite” Op.39.
