A message from our board President:
Dear members of the Newark Symphony Orchestra community, this year is unlike any other in our 50+ year history. Because of COVID-19, the Newark Symphony’s board, musicians, staff, and Maestro Simeone Tartaglione (now celebrating his tenth year with us) have worked hard to keep all of us safe by offering virtual concerts until this trying time has passed. Our inaugural October 25 virtual concert was rehearsed and performed outdoors and live-streamed not only to our local community but also to listeners as far away as Italy, Romania, the Czech Republic, and California. It was an exciting and moving event. If you missed this concert, please visit www.newarksymphony.org to view a video recording. Music always enriches our lives and raises our spirits. We need the power of music even more during these difficult times. The Newark Symphony will continue to nurture our musical community by exploring new formats and media to enhance your listening and viewing pleasure and to keep our connections alive. Although there can be no live performances for now, we have not disappeared! We will continue with virtual performances until we can be together, and we look forward to that day. Again, please visit www.newarkdymphony.org to learn about the beautiful classical compositions the Newark Symphony will bring to you online and free of charge this season. Check out “The Music Room” Series on our web page where you will find short informative videos made by members of our orchestra about music. New ones will be posted regularly! However, with the loss of ticket revenue (a major source of funds for the operation of the orchestra), we need your support more than ever. While expenditures such as performance hall rentals are down, the technology needed for our virtual performances is expensive. Because we know so many people’s circumstances have changed as a result of the pandemic, we appreciate your help with our 2020-21 annual campaign in any way you can. If you enjoy a concert, please consider making a donation on the website in addition to an Annual Appeal donation. The Newark Symphony Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization led by a committed Board of Directors. All donations are tax-deductible. We are careful with our funds, and the orchestra is financially sound in no small part due to your generosity last year during our Delaware Division of the Arts matching challenge grant. Our budget is balanced each year from ticket sales (though again, not this year), public and private grants, endowment funds, Friends of Newark Symphony contributions, and especially your donations. With the dedication of our volunteer members and the generosity of you, our supporters, the Newark Symphony can remain a shining light and inspiration in our community. Thank you very much for your continued support, and I wish you a safe, healthy year enriched by the beautiful and inspiring music of the Newark Symphony.
